Tips and advice for handling our products

Laboratory analysis

Due to increased demand: Our ash is free of chromium components (especially chromium(VI)).
Furthermore, our ash stocks are regularly checked to ensure we can offer you the best possible quality.

Failed ash ripening

We have increasingly experienced failures in ash aging.
This was particularly common when reusing the ash after regeneration.
Based on our research, we can offer the following important information:
Ash that clumped during the first use (came into contact with the moisture in the meat) is not suitable for a second ash aging! Anything else can be reused after appropriate supplementation.
Other possible reasons for failures in ash aging:
- Insufficient coverage
- The ash is too/insufficiently compressed
- The meat is not sufficiently pre-dried ("burned through")

Production of the ash

We and our suppliers primarily heat their homes and commercial buildings with wood-fired boilers of various sizes. This means that all the energy generated during ash production is put to good use.

Can ash from the domestic oven be used

Yes, you can certainly use your own ashes in the garden or for any other purpose.
We recommend using untreated wood from the region. It's advantageous to process the wood yourself, right in the forest. It's best to buy the wood where you can see its origin.

Fuels in ash production

The composition of ash is as diverse as the fuel used by our suppliers.
Beechwood ash typically contains 95-100% beechwood.
Softwood ash contains at least 50% softwood, usually 80-100%.
Hardwood ash is the most diverse in its composition. The softwood content cannot be completely avoided, but is below 20%.
Even with the most careful processing of the base materials, different chemical compositions unfortunately cannot be avoided. Please consider this when using it.

Ash as fertilizer in the garden

The possible uses in the garden are too diverse to go into all the details here.
We encourage you to seek advice from relevant websites or experts.

Wound healing in trees

Here, too, the conditions and possibilities are very diverse. We are pleased to share two recipes with you that our customers have had very positive experiences with:

Clay with Cow Manure
Good for winter
Mix clay and cow manure or cow dung in a 2:1 ratio and spread on the skin. For optimal results, add ash.
Good breathability, thus reducing the risk of rot.
Good protection against cold and dehydration; the ash has an antiseptic effect.
Supports the supply of nutrients from cow dung.
Removal is not necessary, as it decomposes naturally over time.

Charcoal Powder
Good for summer use due to its drying effect on weeping cuts.
Breathable, thus supporting cell regeneration in wood tissue.
Disinfectant effect, therefore suitable for infection protection.
Prepared by crushing charcoal in a mortar, grinder, or a bag with a hammer.
Sprinkle the powder onto the wound and then press it in with your fingers.
Note: Only use in dry weather, as the Charcoal powder is washed away by the rain!

Sterilize ashes

!!!Attention!!!
Due to negative feedback, these instructions are not guaranteed.
We are continuing to investigate how you can safely regenerate ash at home.
Ash, especially when aged, can be used multiple times.
For this purpose, sterilizing the ash before each use is recommended.
We recommend placing the ash in a fireproof container and leaving it in a preheated oven at approximately 200°C for approximately 60-90 minutes. We have also had positive experiences with sterilizing it on a grill. It is important that the entire ash (including the core) reaches a temperature of over 100°C for at least 20 minutes.

pH values

Even though ash is always alkaline, you should determine the exact pH value shortly before use.
Due to the diversity of nature, we unfortunately cannot give you a precise recommendation here either, but we do provide a table with some guidelines.
This will follow shortly.

Drinking ash

Even if the ash is produced under the most careful conditions in a low-pollution region, the consequences of ingesting ash are unpredictable. Therefore, we strongly advise against ingesting it!

charcoal briquettes

Our charcoal is packaged and delivered in its original condition. We do not press it into briquettes.

shipping

We ship throughout the EU.

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer shipping to countries outside the EU. You are welcome to use the German addresses of third-party providers. They collect your orders and forward them to you. We would be happy to help you find a suitable provider.

Moss killer

Our ash contains no additives. Its moss-killing and weed-killing properties are due solely to the ash's high pH value.
